Credit Sequences

Heyyyy so update on our project. Basicallyy my group and I agree that my ideas weren’t the best fit for what we all wanted to do. Today we ended up talking and coming up with a new idea that I love and is more exciting!!

We wanted to keep the idea of having a flashback during our film opening but before the flashback there is going to be a clip of a teenager sneaking back into their house in the middle of the night.

Before we do this scene I started to brainstorm how we can film the credits. The first way that I imagined it was that we would film a sequence of close-ups of objects in the characters room. For example a close up of the characters alarm clock showing what time it is or a close up of the locked door handle. I imagine the font to be Walter Turncoat in a dark red/ burgundy color.

Another way I would like to film my credits would be with the same font and color but instead of filming close ups of objects in the actors room its would be a series of slow pans across the room.

After a long weekend of watching drama and romance films to inspire me for other film ideas, these are some options i’ve come up with…

My first idea that I thought of this weekend was about a bookstore owner that finds a series of love letters hidden in between old book pages. The show “You” was one of my inspirations for how I wanted the setting and lighting to look like. Thinking of this show I just wanted to think of a way to create this into a romantic film. Although this show has absolutely nothing to do with my idea I just loved Joes library setting. I’ve also just always loved the idea of filming a camera shot through a bookshelf to introduce the character.

My second idea that led me to conclude to my third and favorite idea was also inspired by the same film, my favorite film, “Someone Great”. “Someone Great”s opening setting is in a subway station in New York, but since I live in florida I wanted my opening film to take place in a bus stop instead. My original idea was to film best friends that over time became strangers but found each other at the bus stop and go through a series of flashbacks replaying their memories together. I was also inspired by this idea from the book “Picking Daisies on Sunday” by Liana Cincotti. Which is about best friends that lost touch after their high school graduation due to a misunderstanding but after finding each other at a bar four years later they are able to reconnect a create a romantic relationship.

In my last blog post I spoke about this idea but as I said in my last blog post my favorite idea was about a widow that reflects on the memories of her husband that passed. I wanted to start my film opening in a graveyard or in a church memorial for her husbands death. The reason I began to think about creating my opening scene there is based on the book Taming 7, by Chloe Wash. In this book the main character “Gibson” lost his father and sister in a boat accident. The book begins in their funeral and works its way backwards using various flashbacks to tell the story of their deaths. Like Taiming 7, Someone Great also uses various flashbacks throughout the movie to give the audience a better understanding of the Jenny’s relationship.

transitioning into our Cambridge project

HIYAA!! Today in class we gained a new member in our group, Mario. After a long conversation with my group we've decided that we are in between doing a romance and drama. Our idea for our film is about an older woman that suffers the loss of her husband, after his funeral she reflects on how they first met. A film that inspired me when we came up with this idea is Someone Great. This has been my favorite movie since I was in middle school. If you’ve watched this movie you would know that it has nothing to do with my idea, but the movie inspired me because although Someone Great is about a breakup and my idea is about a new widow, both of the films show grief. In Someone Great, the main character, Jenny, is grieving a nine year relationship and as she goes through the city of New York, she has bittersweet memories of the person her loved one once was. Like the movie I want to have specific places that the widow has bitter sweet memories of her husband. Another thing that inspired me from this movie was its use of color. Each memory has such vibrant hues of blues, purples and reds.

Portfolio Project Genre #2

As my second option for my Aice Media opening film, my partner and I decided that another genre we are interested in is a Musical. Musicals typically have a broad spectrum audience, ranging from families, teens and adults. A convention of musicals is where characters break into song and dance to express characters emotions. Musicals usually use a lot of long takes and shots to film the characters full body while dancing. Musicals typically use high key lighting and bright colors. Their marketing also relies heavily on its songs. Two of my favorite musicals are La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

Portfolio Project Genre #1

One of the genres that my partner and I are interested in filming is romance!!

The typical target audience of the genre are female teens and young adults ages 18-45. Some genre conventions that were used to create the film are the enemies to lovers, happy ending, and forbidden love troupe. Some techniques that are used to film romance films are use of high key lighting, lots of close ups and extreme close ups to focus on the characters facial expressions, and a warm color palette using a lot of different pinks, reds, and oranges. Two of my favorite films that represent the genre are Anyone But You and Someone Great.
