My Sound Project

In class my teacher taught us about foley sounds and how they are created. Foley sounds are sometimes made of expected objects, for example in “A Quiet Place” the sound of monsters ears unfolding was created by twisting lettuce and celery stalks. When using foley sounds I learned that they record the scene first and then add the sound after. A prop pass is when they are recording a film and record the dialogue but after go back and recreate the sound to intensify it and add detail. I also learned about sounds importance in a scene. It gives your scene dimension and adds emotion.

In our first sound project we created a 1-2 minute scene where the plot was portrayed through the use of sound. My partner and I chose a scene that was a bike ride. During the bike ride the biker gets caught in a storm and has to run into a restaurant for shelter. In our project we had to create 4 of our own foley sounds, our foley sounds was the door slamming, the key locking the door, the bikes bell, and the chair moving as the biker gets seated in the restaurant.

For my second project I had to add sound to my previously filmed OWF. My scene had to portray the word arrogant. A mistake I had made when creating my OWF was that I left a lot of space for dialogue in my film, although I could not use any. For my project the setting was a classroom soI tried paying attention to the little details that you would hear in a classroom like, pencils sharpening, students talking, chairs moving and footsteps.

For my first project I felt confident in what I turned in but I know that there will always be something I could have done better like maybe adding more plot to my story.For my second project I felt that my first mistake was what I had filmed. It was very difficult to get the correct timing in the knocking and tapping of the desks. I also felt that I could have done better when it came to my foley sounds. Some of the foley sounds I did was classroom chatter, and the different types of knocks and pen tappings.
