Editing!!

 Editing

As soon as I got home yesterday I started to edit what we had filmed! The first thing I did after putting all of our clips together was to put a darker filter and to raise the contrast on the scene where there is text messages. Since the screens brightness was so high it was hard to read what the text messages said.

Finding a Font
The next thing I did was start looking at possible fonts to use. I wanted the font to look like it was a messy handwritting. I also knew that I wanted the font to be a dark purple because for some of the scenes we used purple lighting.
At first I really wanted to use a font like Funflare but I had trouble being able to download it and put it on clip champ, so I had to just use a font that looked alike on climp champ. I ended up using Rock Salt for credits and Permanent Marker for the title.

Filming!

Today we started filming our project! I know that you guys are probably thinking about how late we are starting to film, but my group has been having a lot of trouble trying to coordinate our schedules. Whenever Luca wasn't working Mario was, but yesterday we finally decided that me and Luca can just film without Mario. Today we filmed all of the night shots and then on Thursday we filmed all of the daytime clips. Mario was able to come help on Thursday. We borrowed a tripod from Mrs Stoklosa to be able to film.

When we were filming we were trying to include a variety of different shots.

Getting Caught

This scene was one of my favorites because Luca's mom acted in it. In this scene Luca comes back home the next morning and finds his mom waiting for him in his bedroom.  As soon as Luca opens the door his mom starts to yell at him in Spanish. It was the funnest scene to film because his mom was so much fun to work with and was such a great improve actor. When I start to edit this scene I am planning to put subtitles for it since its in Spanish. When we filmed this scene we filmed it from multiple angles. We filmed Luca's perspective as a close up, a medium shot and as a dutch angle; and we filmed a close up and a long shot of Luca's his mom.

Starting to film!!

Today we started to try out the different angles in which we can film our credit scenes and how it would look. Originally we wanted to start with a view of the lake and then a long shot of the outside of lucas house.
Then we wanted to do a scene with Lucas bed stuffed with stuffed animals to mimic a person sleeping
Lastly we wanted to do a scene with the alarm clock to show what time it is.

Order of credits

Hiyaaaa! At first when we started to film our credit scenes we weren’t fully sure of how we wanted the order to be. We didn’t know whether to make the sunrise first or last. Now after filming it we’ve decided that it looks best in the beginning. The order for our credential scenes close ups are lake—>outside of the house—> alarm clock—> stuffed bed.

Making Props!

Morning!! Today I started to make a flyer for when we start to film this weekend. This weekend we are supposed to go over to Luca’s house to start filming our credit scenes. For our credit scenes we are filming close-ups of objects in Luca’s room (aka the flyer). When I started to make our flyer I just based it on past party invitations I had gotten sent.

Our Company logo!!

During our Aice Media class on Tuesday, my group and I started to work on sketches for our company logo!! At first we were struggling with our companies name. We wanted to combine our names somehow but after twenty minutes of using name generators, we decided it would be best to just combine our initials.

We started with the name VAMB. V for me, A- Andrade, M-Mario and B for Borde. At first we didn’t mind that the initials were unequally distributed between us, but the one thing that bothered me was that half of the initials were for our first names and the other half was last names. So after we sketched out designs with this name we decided to try out a different name VLM.

When we sketched our designs we all agreed that we were going for a beachy vibe. We all decided to do two different logos and then we would all share our ideas with each other to choose our favorite one.

We had so much trouble on picking our favorite one. I created the first three, Mario created the 4th and fifth design and Luca made the last two. My favorites were the first one, the fifth one and the last one. None of us could decide on which one we loved more so we went to Mrs. Stocklosa for advice. She just told us that it really depended on what aesthetic we wanted our logo to have. She commented that the fifth one might not be the best choice due to how dark the background color is. She also told us that she like the name VLM more than VAMB. After hearing her advice we decided on the first one to be out companies logo. In our logo the three birds stand for us three.

Sound!!

Welcome back to my blog!! Today i’m going to talk to you guys about how we are going to filming and recording our sound. In my past projects I have worked on creating soundscapes and making foley sounds. For this project I am going to be making lots of foley sounds for the door slamming, his footsteps, and the window opening. For the scenes of the party I was planning to record the sounds of the party and create a soundscape. I would have the people chattering, music and sounds of bottles clattering.

Introducing Luca and Mario

When we started to come up with our ideas for our film opening we always imagined the characters to be based on my partners. We never wanted today use anyone else’s name for a role that felt so much like them. That why our main characters are named after Luca and Mario. In the film opening Luca is silly and reckless. He can also be portrayed as rebellious.

For our other character, also based on a group member, is Mario. In the film opening Mario is not seen as much as Luca but is shown as his best friend. In real life Luca and Mario are great friends and in the film I want Mario to be portrayed as the loyal, best friend who is also the life of the party.

Setting

For our film opening we have about three different settings to create. Our first setting is going to be Lucas room. For this setting we don’t have to do much because in luca’s room he has great lighting and a lot of space. We want his room to be filled with clutter. A prop we are making for his room is a poster of the party he’s going to. We are going to create a flier on canvas and print it out. This is an example..

The next setting in our film is the car ride to the party with Mario. This scene is super short but I feel it’s still important to have details in the car. Marios car is also going to be cluttered with rappers, drinks and party fliers.

Lastly the last setting is outside of the party. For this scene we are going to film in an actual party being thrown by Luca’s best friend. There are going to be lots of purple and red lights and people walking in.

Costuming

Clothing: For Luca’s party outfit, he’s going to be wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt with sneakers.

In the beginning of the night I want him to achieve a clean look to contrast him at the end of the night looking messy. To achieve his clean look he’s going to have damp freshly washed hair with a clean face and ironed clothes. At the end of the night his clothes is going to have some wet spots, messy hair, and a slightly dirty face. I also want to use a little bit of makeup to enhance his under eye bags.

Media Theory

Hiyaa!! For my film opening I have been researching some media theory’s that I want to integrate into my project and the theory I want to focus on the most is realism. In my project I want the character to really represent and make the audience feel as though they were seeing life through a teenagers eyes. To achieve realism I have to pay a lot of attention to detail and focus on mise-en-scene.

Setting:

The film is going to be taken in three places, the teenagers bedroom, the car, and the party. The clips of the party and of the car are going to be very short clips but for the party we are going to be filming in an actual party that my group and I are going to so it will be realistic. The car is going to messy to symbolize the type of person the student is. I want the car to be filled with food rappers and clothes. The bedroom is also going to be very messy, there will be dirty clothes all over the bedroom floor, the trash can will be overflowing, and there will be rappers and papers all over the teenagers desk.

Lighting:

For lighting we will be using the sunlight that comes from the bedroom window.

Props/Costumes and Makeup:

For props I want there to be a party flier of where he is planing to go.

In the morning when the actor comes back I want him to look fatigued and dirty. His clothes will be wrinkled and dirty in comparison to when he left his house earlier that night.

A movie that I am referencing is the Florida Project. I am referencing this movie because of its use of costuming and props. For example, in the movie Moonee and her friends are often sweaty and dirty, wearing mismatched and worn clothes. Although they used this costuming because of their economic status, I want my character to look somewhat like this after the night he had. I also thought of this movie because of the color palette the director used. In the movie they used hues of purples and oranges to show the audience how Moonee sees the world in an innocent manner, filled with joy. In my film opening I want  my character to see his home life in more monotone shades to contrast the colors of the party, which will also be slight shades of purple and orange.

Storyboard!

Hellooooo!! Today I wanted to show you guys our storyboard for our film opening. Doing a storyboard is something that helped my group agree on many things. It helped us visualize our film the same way and is one of my favorite things to do because it also helped me organize my thoughts and plans.
I have some experience making storyboards since I have made them for my past projects. I have also watched multiple videos on them in class. I used this storyboard of the film, Wall·e as a reference

Summary of my project idea!!

I finally feel super happy about my project idea and I also feel super happy to be able to share it with you guys! After a long discussion with my group and a conversation with Mrs Stocklosa we were able to finalize our idea. So basicallyy the one thing my group and I aren’t sure about is how or where we are going to integrate our title, but just for now we decided to start our film with a black screen with the title name, After Hours.

Introducing our character:

The film opening is going to start with closeups of objects that help give a hint as to what is going on. For example, a close up of the clock at 7:00am, a shot of an unmade bed with pillows mimicking a body shape, a close up of a series of text messages showing where the character is, and a close up of a flyer on his desk. The credit sequence is going to be included in these shots. I want the credits to be in either a purple or red font color.

After these shots take place, there is going to be a wide shot of the main character coming in to his bedroom through his window.

Once he enters his room, he makes a slight noise and his mom walks in yelling at him and asking him where he went last night.

Plot:

After that discussion with his mother we are going to edit it to be a crash cut and cut it to the party he went to last night. This crash cut was inspired by Mrs Socklosa that recommended it to us. She also referenced it to the Killing Eve exert we watched when doing a media text essay in class, and we loved the idea. The only thing we are struggling with is whether we should do a crashcut to the party or to the character sneaking out and getting into his friends car in the middle of the night.

Group Meeting

Yesterday I had my first group meeting and I loved it!! I received so much useful feedback and I gained so many new ideas for my film.

In my group meeting I told my classmates my original idea which was a teenager sneaking back into his bedroom, but I didn't know how to tie that scene back to what had happened earlier in the night. I also didn't know what would have happened earlier that night, but my classmates suggested that when he sneaks out he goes to a party and  is intoxicated.

The way that I originally wanted to tie this scene back to when he's coming into his room was through a flashback, but my classmates suggested that instead of a flashback, his friend sends him a text message with a video of him at the party. I not sure if I want the character to have gotten a text message or to see that someone had posted it on the internet. My classmates also suggest that after the video there is an abrupt cut of the bell ringing and him walking to class the next day to help continue the plot.

Sunday, February 1, 2026

As I was saying in my last blog post, my group and I decided on an idea that wasnt something we had originally planned for but are still excited to do! Before I was originally going for an idea that was on the cheesier side but instead we decided on a more exciting idea.We wanted to start the film with a teenager sneaking into his bedroom in the middle of the night to engage our audience, then I wanted to do a flashback on what happened before he left his house and where he went that night. I don’t  know yet where the actor went that night but i’m sure tomorrow in class when my group gets together to work on our project we will figure it out. So far I know how I want to do our credits and what shots I want to take as the actor sneaks in. For our credit sequence, I want to do close ups of objects that are key items in our story. For example, the bed being stuffed, the clock showing how late it is, maybe tickets for someplace or the locked bedroom door handle. Before he sneaks in I also want to film the bedroom wall as car light pass through the window. For the sneaking in part I wanted to film the actor coming into his bedroom from the outside of his house, just to show how he left and how he got in.

My Final Project!!
